Though pour concrete is highly popular today cement blocks are still regarded as a reliable foundation material by various experts. Here are some tips on utilizing cement blocks to build your foundation.
Firstly, make sure to mix up the mortar properly as per the instructions since an improper blend cannot hold the cement blocks effectively. Apply a mortar line (3/4” thick and 1 and ½ “wide) four feet along the side of your footing. Then run a 2nd line too of equal measurements parallely to the first. Now, start placing the blocks. Begin from the corners and tap the blocks with a trowel handle to position them properly. Then, wipe out the excess mortar.
Keep a minimum of ½” mortar between the blocks. Continue the process in all the levels. After the laying is over, let it dry for minimum 24 hours. Fill up the blocks with cement to add strength. Finally, smooth off the top surface with the trowel handle again.
